OUR MISSION
RAIN is a Cornell University student organization dedicated to fostering thoughtful, critical, and accessible conversations about Responsible AI. Our mission is to help students build the literacy and awareness needed to understand how AI systems influence society — and how society, in turn, shapes the development and governance of AI.
We focus on creating spaces for open dialogue, collaborative learning, and student-led inquiry. Through weekly themed discussions, curated readings, and our own research into AI ethics, policy, and the social implications of emerging technologies, RAIN empowers students to engage deeply with the issues that matter.
At our core, we aim to cultivate a community of curious, informed, and conscientious thinkers who can navigate the complex landscape of AI responsibly. We strive to make conversations about AI accessible to students of all backgrounds, encourage interdisciplinary perspectives, and inspire peers to become active participants in shaping a more ethical and equitable AI future.

3 CORE VALUES
Collaboration
We foster a multidisciplinary community where students from diverse fields — computer science, information science, policy, economics, ethics, and beyond — work together to examine and address the complex challenges of AI.
Critical Inquiry
RAIN values intellectual curiosity and the courage to question dominant narratives about AI. We encourage our members to think deeply about power, bias, and impact — and to explore how AI reshapes society, work, and human relationships.
Open Dialogue
RAIN promotes an environment of respectful, open discussion. We believe meaningful progress requires space for debate, disagreement, and shared learning, especially on topics as nuanced as AI safety, governance, and fairness.

TESTIMONIES
I joined RAIN because it seemed like a good place to foster my opinions on ethical AI usage. I was correct! RAIN meetings are packed with many different teachings and discussions of the morality and ethics of AI.
- Kira Burd
RAIN gave me an opportunity to step into another aspect of technology and AI, the ethics and comprehension of what AI does and what it can do. Too many people look to apply themselves to the frontier of AI development without looking at the possible consequences long term. The education and lessons that RAIN provides are necessary for anyone who wants to apply themselves to some form of AI in the future.
- Braddy Maria
I joined RAIN to have a more comprehensive understanding of AI and its effects on different communities, and to discuss the steps towards a responsible and ethical future of AI with my peers.
